Oil and brass golden leaves on canvas
Markiza was a cow from a Slovenian farm featured in the triptych titled "Feeding Time - Filtered," which captures the cows in their original barn setting during dinner. Ješe spent a significant amount of time with these subjects and got to know them well. She also named them, as they didn't have names before she started painting them.
This particular cow was quite dominant, a trait that was also passed on to her offspring. She didn’t allow anyone to pet her. Due to the chain, quite a bit of grotesque corneous tissue grew on her neck.
At the time of painting this piece, Ješe was exploring photo filters and chose to use a dimmed black-and-white effect for this particular work. To break the monotony of the color tones, she covered some parts of the portrait with golden leaves.
In the final stage, the canvas was perforated using a bow and arrows. Upon closer inspection, one can see the holes. The arrow is part of the painting.
