For this year’s calendar, the artist has chosen cows, her most beloved and frequently depicted motif. The selection has been curated from her diverse body of work, spanning more than a decade. In 2012, she began exploring the image and concept of the golden calf, which opened the door to a now vast portfolio of paintings, sculptures, graphic prints, photographs, and performances. Through the cow motif, she has spontaneously found a deep connection to her rural family roots and expressed the emotions and trauma endured throughout Slovene national history.
Here, you can find a selection of 12 high-quality fine art prints, which can also be cut and framed after the calendar has served its purpose.
The months are bilingual, in English and the old Slovene language. Although almost no one in Slovenia uses the old Slovene version anymore, the names have a beautiful Slavic tone, and they also carry meaning, connecting the language to its historical rural roots. The names announce the natural happenings that are taking place, connected to the meadows and fields and the farm work that needs to be done.
For example, April and May are “Mali traven” and “Veliki traven,” which means in April the grass is “small” and in May “big,” ready to be cut. June, or “Rožnik,” translates as the month of flowers, while October, or “Vinotok,” means the wine is being poured then. You are kindly invited to have fun and discover the meanings of the other names on your own.
